All writers eventually succumb to writers block. Yes, even the most seasoned writers suffer from this annoying little problem. Understanding the main cause of the problem can help anyone surpass this block and continue working on those projects that seem to be going nowhere.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pen/pencil
  • Paper
  • Crayons/markers (optional)
  1. Step 1

Begin by identifying the reason why you are blocked. Some of the most common reasons include boredom with a project, lack of ideas, tiredness, procrastination, and fear.

  2. Step 2

If you are bored with the project, move on to another one or start a new one. Sometimes a change of subject matter is all that is needed.

  3. Step 3

Whenever possible, do projects that you are excited about. If you are uninterested in the subject you are writing about, it will be harder to sit and work for longer periods.

  4. Step 4

If you use a computer to write, try going low tech. Grab a pen or pencil and some paper and write by hand. Use crayons or markers and invite your inner-child to come out and play…Be creative and put away the computer, at least for a little while.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy your work. Nothing kills your creativity quicker than doing a job you hate.

  6. Step 6

When all else fails, take a break. Go for a walk, read a magazine, or go to a bookstore. Just do anything that might distract you enough so you have a clear head when you return to your work.
