How to Soften Dry Skin

Winter can be tough on your skin, especially if it already tends to be dry. These tips are great for the driest, toughest spots like elbows and heels.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    For extra dry elbows and heels, rub a piece of fresh cut pineapple on the area and let the juices sit there for two to three minutes (shorter if you feel it tingling). Pineapple contains a very powerful chemical called Bromelain compounds that can break down the driest, toughest skin. You might feel a bit of stinging from the pineapple, but you will be amazed at how soft your skin is. Just be sure to rinse it off if you feel any discomfort.

  2. Step 2

    Wipe the pineapple off with a washcloth and warm water. Then apply a thick coating of cocoa butter, and wrap the warm washcloth around the area for another minute or so.

  3. Step 3

    Cut the toes out of a pair of tube socks and pull the socks up over your elbows to hold the lotion in place overnight. For heels, just sleep in a pair of socks after applying lotion.

Tips & Warnings
  • keep showers short and dont run the water too hot-- it can really dry out your skin
  • apply lotion after you shower for best absorption
  • dont used canned pineapple-- it wont work for this.
  • if you have sensitive skin, or a skin condition, ask your dermatologist before you try this.
