How to Make Jewelry Stands

How to Make Jewelry Standsthumbnail
Organized stands will beautifully showcase any piece of jewelry.

Jewelry stands are important pieces of equipment when displaying jewelry. Stands should accent your jewelry's unique color and design, and be sturdy enough to hold large, heavy pieces such as gemstone necklaces. Commonly found in craft stores, materials for stands, such as cloth and mat board, are inexpensive but useful in assembling a jewelry display. Making your own jewelry stands eliminates the look of a generic display and instead gives you the opportunity to create your own presentation that suits your own color and size needs.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Satin cloth, black or white
    • Glue
    • Paint brush
    • Mat board, black or white
    • Corsage pins
    • Heavy-duty tape
    • Scissors
    • Pencil
    • Ruler
      • 1

Cut the mat board into a six-inch by 18-inch size. Mat board is a heavy-duty paper product, similar to cardboard, found in craft stores. Choose the mat board color that matches your cloth. To make cutting easier, mark the cutting areas with a pencil and ruler first and use heavy-duty scissors.

      • 2

Cut the cloth into an eight-inch by 20-inch size, choosing a color that matches the mat board. Avoid frayed edges by brushing a light amount of glue on the edges. Set aside and allow it to dry.

      • 3

Fold the mat board into three sections to form a triangle stand. Do this by marking out six-inch by six-inch sections along the length of the mat board and fold, so that you have three separate sections. Use the heavy-duty tape to tape the ends closed.

      • 4

Brush the glue evenly along the mat board and fix the cloth to it, leaving one-inch sections around the edges. Work on gluing one section at a time until the outside of the triangle stand is covered. Avoid using heavy amounts of glue because the drips will show through the cloth and disrupt the smooth and clean appearance. Glue the extra one inch of cloth around the edges to the back of the stand.

      • 5

Use corsage pins to hang your jewelry. The advantage of using the pins instead of hooks is that you can rearrange the pins when you want to change your jewelry display. The pins easily attach to the mat board and cloth without making a mark. If you are using a black stand, paint the white pin heads with black acrylic paint so that they match the rest of the display.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Use black or white cloth and matching mat board for jewelry displays. The jewelry colors show better on clean, plain black or white satin, and these neutral colors do not take away from the main focus.

    • Create visually appealing jewelry displays by making stands of various heights and widths. Avoid clutter by not putting too many pieces of jewelry on one stand.

    • Add satin ribbon to the edges of stands for an accent and to give them a finished look.
