Things You'll Need:
- paint brush
- ebonizing stain
-
Step 1
First you must being with a dark-colored wood. You can ebonize any type of wood but I think a darker wood take in the black faster.
-
Step 2
First start by applying a water-based dye, it is easier to use. process of ebonizing is as easy as applying a stain. I mix up a fairly concentrated black aniline dye. This dye is easier to use and lightfast. The grain will need to raised first, you can do this by wetting the surface, after it dries, lightly sand the raised wood parts.
-
Step 3
When you dye the wood, you first will need to mix 3 teaspoons of dye in a quart of hot water. Get you paint brush and put on a heavy coat on the wood and let it set. If you want the dye darker, DO NOT WIPE off the extra dye!! Add more if you want it darker, then apply a finisher.
