Every public school is suffering from less funding, more needs for services and less volunteering. Discover how to fundraise and earn money for your school. PTA or PTO

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • COMPUTER WITH INTERNET ACCESS
  • ABILITY TO PRINT DOCUMENTS
  • PAPER TO MAKE FLIERS
  1. Step 1

Determine what your school needs and what you are earning money for during your fundraising. Set a goal for the amount needed to fund the program. Enlist a group of parents, teachers or interested community members to develop fundraising ideas. You can also use some of my ideas such as collecting pennies for playground equipment (you have each class collect as many pennies as possible and the class that earns the most gets to spend 1/2 their collected money on items their class needs), a family ice cream social (request donations or sponsorships from local businesses and charge a minimal fee to families...also at the event havea silent auction of prizes donated from local businesses) or ask a local business to host a family night and donate a portion of the proceeds.

  2. Step 2

Get the word out. Make fliers, contact local newspapers, news channels and radio stations to advertise for free. Ask teachers to put the information in their newsletters and email all friends and family in the area.

  3. Step 3

Host the event. Make thanks yous for those who donate and share your success with your school. Successful events lead to more volunteers and community support.

Tips & Warnings
  • Search sites such as PTO Today for fundraising ideas and sample donation request letters
  • Utilize volunteers strengths and accept any time committment for help
  • Get the kids involved...ask them to help set up the event, design a flier and spreadthe word
  • Give yourself time and don't get discouraged. Set small goals that are achievable and benefit the whole school.
