Plastic grocery bags are good for a lot of things, but a rope? Yes. Make a rope to hang clothes, tie things together, tie things to things, or whatever else you might need. A plastic bag rope is perfect for those emergency situations and knowing how to make one can be very helpful when camping. A few plastic grocery bags is all you need for an amazingly strong rope.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic grocery bags
  1. Step 1

Put your hand through the handles of the first bag and grasp the middle of the bag, pulling it part way through the handles, creating a slip knot.

  2. Step 2

Put two to three inches of the bottom of the second bag into this slip knot.

  3. Step 3

Pull gently until the slip knot has closed over the bottom of the second bag, then pull more firmly to ensure that it will stay.

  4. Step 4

Continue by creating a slip knot with the handles of the second bag and inserting the bottom of a third bag.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the bags fill with air when you use this rope, flatten them and twist slightly.
  • The tighter the rope is pulled, the tighter the slip knots will hold.
  • Test the rope before using for anything breakable. How strong it is depends on the type of plastic used.
