Step 1
Most of you already know about Thrift stores, but did you also know that some thrift stores run specials on certain days. A Salvation Army in my neighborhood has a different special each day of the week. I've bought articles of clothing for .50 a piece.

Step 2
Sell your kids old clothes on Ebay! Clean them up, put comparable sizes together, take nice pictures, and sell them as a lot. The money you make on them can go towards another lot of clothes on Ebay that will actually fit your child. I've done this for all of my kids, and sometimes I've even come up ahead.

Step 3
Check out consignment shops. Though a bit more expensive than thrift stores, their clothes are generally in great condition. You can also usually bring in your own used items for them to sell and receive store credit...which usually goes further than any cash they might pay you.
