To get better sleep - exercise. As we age, muscles become weaker, daily routines interrupt our natural daily rhythyms and stress all make it harder to get good, uninterrupted sleep. Exercise, done at the right time of day, can help.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Develop Your Sense of Balance. Doing exercises while standing on one leg will strengthen your sense of balance, develop muscles, aid in developing good posture and a nice side effect - help with a good nights sleep. Yoga is a good source of simple but effective exercises.

  2. Step 2

Exercise in the Morning. Studies show this is the ideal time for exercise to sleep better. The worst time is right before bedtime.

  3. Step 3

Use Weights. They don't have to be heavy or elaborate. And you can do exercises that use your body weight, like pushups. There is a site on the internet that has a routine that guides you to do 100 pushups as your goal. See Resources for link.

  4. Step 4

Have a Stretching Routine. Again - don't overdo. Make it relaxing and go slow. Over time, your body will want to stretch and you just won't feel good until you have a good stretch.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't overdo or you will negatively impact your sleep.
