Can you save money buying cars by talking to less salesmen? Yes you can.

When you get ready to shop for a new or used car at a dealership, use this method to save money buying cars. You will also save yourself time and energy! Buying a car is likely to be a very high cost decision so it is important to take all necessary steps to save money when you buy a car. You can easily save thousands by making dealers compete for your business.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fax Machine
  1. Step 1

First, to save buying cars, you will need to type a document with the exact specifications of the automobile you are looking for - include make, model, year(s), exterior features, interior features (the more details, the better). Also include your payment terms - 60 months finance to own, 48 month lease, cash purchase, etc.

  2. Step 2

Now, call all dealerships within a 50 mile radius of your home who carry the model you are interested in and ask them for their fax number. Tell them you may be faxing in a quote request and look forward to their response.

  3. Step 3

Next, fax your specifications to each dealership that you found to be friendly and responsive. In the document, be sure to ask them to fax back a monthly payment quote (lease or own) or total price within 24 hours. For a more accurate quote, provide them with your approximate credit score.

  4. Step 4

Compare the results that you receive back from each dealer. Select the top result and the next four best results. Take notice of the sizeable difference between the best and worst bid, this is the start of how you save money buying cars.

  5. Step 5

Call the four that were not the top result - tell them you received a better offer from a competing dealer. Provide them the terms and ask them if they are certain they cannot do better. Let these companies compete for your business - you are the customer! Again, this can help you save money buying cars, thousands of dollars, if done properly.

  6. Step 6

Select the dealer that has given you the best terms and that you enjoyed speaking to (good customer service is a plus in case you have problems with your car at some point).

  7. Step 7

Go to the dealer in person and complete your transaction. Enjoy the ride and enjoy the extra money that you saved in buying your car the right way. This completes the instructions to save money buying cars.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be friendly and polite with the dealerships, they are not an enemy. They will respond to your positive attitude!
