Hang a Large Mirror
Hang a Large Mirror

Hanging a large mirror can be done very easily. The most important tip is to make sure your mirror is properly reinforced. Here are a few steps on how to ensure the safety of hanging your mirror.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Good quality D-ring picture hanger
  • Mirror Wire about 10 inches longer than width of mirror
  • Molly bolts
  1. Step 1
    D- Rings

    D- Rings

On the back of the mirrors frame, measure and mark 1/4 of the distance from the top to bottom on each side. Then position the D rings and mark the holes. Drill pilot holes where you have marked, and attach the rings with screws. Make sure you attach this securely and tightly to the frame! Never over tighten, or you will end up cracking the frame. Use your judgment please!

  2. Step 2

Insert the mirror wire through each D ring, leaving the wire snug between the two rings. Knot the wire around the hook or "D" of the D ring twice to ensure tightness, and twist the excess wire to prevent it from unraveling and slipping.

  3. Step 3
    Molly Bolt

Have your helper hold the mirror by the attached wire, holding it up against the vertical lines, marking where the molly bolts will go. This is a two person job, do not try to do it yourself. Measure the distance from the wire to the top of the frame. Transfer that measurement to the wall. Install the molly bolts with the hooks at the lower points

  4. Step 4

Finally you can hang your mirror safely and securely!

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not purchase a cheap d-ring hanger. A sturdy one can be found at a local hardware store for about 2.99
  • Make sure you have a helper.

on 2/4/2009 I definitely needed this advice. I have a mirror that I hung that has now fallen a bunch of times. I'm lucky it hasn't broke. I'm going to try your advice. Thanks. 5*
