I will demonstrate how to easily restore your headlights to a near like new condition with very simple items, and simple to follow steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3M buffing Compound
  • Small buffer
  • Extension Cord
  • 600 - 800 Grit Auto Sanding paper
  • Water
  • Small Bucket
  • Clean Towels
  1. Step 1

First park your car in a shaded area, or in garage if you have one. Get your extension Chord ready along with bucket half way with clean water, and your towels ready.

  2. Step 2

Wash both headlights with water, and rinse. Sand down face of headlights, being careful not to sand onto painted car surface. Wipe down, with clean towels.

  3. Step 3

Apply 3M rubbing compound onto headlights, and allow to haze. Get your Buffer ready and start off slowly working your way up and down, until you start to see headlights clearing up, depending on make and year of vehicle, you will restore to almost new finish, shiny and see through.

  4. Step 4

Do same to both headlights, until desired finish. you may repeat step 2 once or twice more if there is still yellowish or buildup in headlights. Then continue onto step 3 once again with 3M compound. You will have restored your headlights and more importantly safety by acquiring more light output from your hazed sun burned lights.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure not to buff in same place too long as it may create burns on plastic headlights.
  • Use only recommended 600-800 sanding paper for auto use.
  • Some use a clear coat on finished headlight to protect from future sun, and weather damage.
  • I have done this numerous times to my vehicles and that of friends, and have never had a complication, please be advised that practice at your own risk.
