How to Roast Chickpeas for a Healthy Snack

Want a healthy, crunchy snack? Roasted chickpeas are easy to make and highly addictive!

Flavor them according to your own taste preferences by making them zesty, spicy or sweet. Perfect for low-carb, diabetic or vegan diets, roasted chickpeas make nutritious on-the-go mini-meals or snacks.

And everyone loves a healthful food gift. Just wrap some roasted and seasoned chickpeas in a clear cellophane bag or glass jar and tie with a pretty ribbon for a welcome hostess or "just because" gift.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 can chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger powder (optional)
  • white sugar (optional)
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    Drain one (15 oz.) can of chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans) and pat dry with a paper towel.

  3. Step 3

    Drizzle olive oil over chickpeas and toss to coat.

  4. Step 4

    Place chickpeas in a single layer onto a foil-lined baking sheet and roast in a 450 degree oven for 30-40 minutes. Do not burn.

  5. Step 5

    Remove from oven and toss with desired spices. Allow to cool before eating and storing in an air-tight container.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with different spices to create your own flavor combination.
  • Mexican flavored: Chili powder, garlic powder, hot chile-limon powder
  • Middle Eastern flavored: Cumin, garam masala, ginger powder, garlic powder
  • Southwest: Barbecue spices
