    Fill out an application or contact the IRS if you need more information. You may wish to consult your tax adviser, tax attorney, or get local free tax help. Many academic institutions and other non-profit organizations often provide low to no-cost tax assistance to individuals and families.

  3. Step 3

    Submit your application for tax relief to the IRS or claim the tax relief when you file your taxes this year. All taxpayers can claim the casualty loss deduction even if they don't itemized their deductions.
