Things You'll Need:
- Safety Glasses
- Nitrile gloves or equivalent safety gloves
- Pair of pliers
- Flat head screwdriver
- Matching fuel filter
- Small container situable for holding 32 oz of gasoline
-
Step 1
Turn off mower. LET MOWER ENGINE COOL. Put on non-absorbent gloves (i.e. nitrile). Put on safety glasses.
-
Step 2
Locate fuel pressure line and fuel filter. Pressure link originates at fuel tank and travels to engine carburetor. Fuel filter is somewhere between the two. Fuel filter will be clamped to line on both ends (in-line).
MAKE A NOTE OF ORIENTATION OF FUEL FILTER. -
Step 3
Prepare container for use. Take pliers and squeeze both edges of clamp (squeeze type) OR loosen screw on universal clamp with a flat head screwdriver. There will be 2 of these clamps on either end of filter.
CAUTION: FUEL WILL START TO LEAK AT THIS POINT. HAVE CONTAINER READY TO CATCH LEAKING FUEL. -
Step 4
Gently remove both fuel lines from clogged/dirty fuel filter. Place fuel lines into container. Do one line at a time. Gas will stream out of fuel lines. Let Drain into container until slow drip. Check for any cracks fuel line. Replace fuel lines if through cracks are present.
-
Step 5
After draining fuel lines,
EITHER squeeze both ends of squeeze clamp with pliers one at a time and push tapered edges of new filter into lines
OR place new filter in correct orientation and push tapered edges into fuel lines and tighten screw with a slot head screwdriver if you have universal clamp. -
Step 6
Check for security. You should able to pull on fuel lines and filter should not come loose.
If container is clean, dump saved fuel back into gas tank. -
Step 7
Restart engine and check for leaks. No leaking is acceptable. If it leaks check security of clamps and fuel lines. If cracks are present in fuel lines, replace.
