Make Kids Clothes Last Longer

If it seems like the milk in your fridge has a longer shelf life than the clothes in your kids' closet, these tricks will keep those duds around for a while and in tip top shape.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep up your stock of socks. Kids always seem to lose just one sock? Buy at least two pairs of socks in the same color or pattern! That way, you still have a match.

  2. Step 2

Erase stains with the magic pre-treater. No, it's not some expensive specialty product - it's plain old dish soap. Experts say it makes most stains, including food, lift out like magic.

  3. Step 3

Let down hems without any creases. Snipping a few stitches is often all it takes to lengthen a hem. But that can leave a telltale crease. To erase the evidence, simply run a permanent marker over the lighter line.

  4. Step 4

Put those jeans in quarantine. One of the biggest sources of wear and tear on delicate items like cotton shirts? Rubbing up against rough blue jeans in the washer! Protect 'em by collecting jeans until you have enough for a separate load.
