Instructions

    • 1

Know what kind of fast you would like to do. Will it be a liquid fast, abstaining from certain foods until a certain time each day, eating only special foods like vegetables, or not eating or drinking anything the entire time?

    • 2

Conduct research on the pros and cons of the type of fast you have selected.

    • 3

Make an appointment to see your doctor. You will need to find out if you have any medical condition that you may not be aware of that would hinder you from this type of fast. Discuss your plans with your doctor.

    • 4

You will need to prepare your body for this undertaking. At least two weeks or more in advance, begin to reduce the amount of meals you eat each day. Avoid drinking anything but water during that time, so that you are conditioning your mind and body to no longer crave sugary drinks, coffees, and teas.

    • 5

Avoid gum and hard candies. Although your breath will not be pleasing to smell initially, you will not want to tempt your body by making a meal of these items.

    • 6

As you reduce your meals each day until you are surviving on nothing but water, you will notice headaches, stomach aches, and other symptoms. If you find you are having minor symptoms that come and go such as feeling faint or weak, hallucinating, and other minor complications that are hindering your performance at work or school, keep plain crackers on standby. The symptoms may subside. However, if they don't you may want to reconsider fasting from food all day. Rather, set aside a time each day when you will fast and when you will eat and don't fluctuate from your schedule.

Once your fast is complete, it is important that you don't eat a large meal. Instead, you will eat very small portions each day. Start with a few crackers, then later in the day a piece of cheese and so on until you can stomach a larger meal. You will know that you have eaten too much when you experience cramps, nausea, and other stomach related illnesses. Try to eat fresh food when you start back to eating and avoid the pre-packaged man made items.
