It is normal to lose about 100-200 hairs a day. Any more than that is a sign that something is wrong. Generally, most female hair loss can be solved with a simple life style change. If you don’t see improvement after following these few steps, you will want to see your physician to rule out any serious conditions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure you are eating enough. Consuming less than 1200 calories a day can trigger hair loss.

  2. Step 2

Decrease your vitamin A. The RDA recommends 2330 IU of daily Vitamin A for women over 19 (2565 IU if you're pregnant). Getting too much vitamin A has been linked to hair loss.

  3. Step 3

Increase your iron. Even if you’re not anemic, your iron levels may be low enough to suppress hair growth and cause breakage.

  4. Step 4

Increase your iron. Even if you’re not anemic, your iron levels may be low enough to suppress hair growth and cause breakage.

  5. Step 5

Condition. Using a protein conditioner will increase your hair strength and help avoid breakage.

  6. Step 6

Let your hair down. Sleeping with ponytail holders or headbands can tear out your hair as you toss and turn.

  7. Step 7

Learn to relax. Stress can be a huge factor in hair loss and breakage.

Tips & Warnings
  • Too much iron can be dangerous so be careful if you decide to increase your iron. Check with your doctor if you're in doubt.
