Things You'll Need:
- A copy of your current resume
- Notebook
- Pen
- Word processing software or resume software
- Resume paper
-
Step 1
Review your current resume. Think about how it looks and what you need to update. Look for and underline any misspelled words or grammatical errors.Use your word processing software to look for any errors.
-
Step 2
Put together a list of keywords and information that your resume is missing. A great way to get a good idea of the skills that you should include in your resume is to look at the words that are used in job openings.
-
Step 3
Change the job descriptions and try to include as much information as possible about what you have contributed to the companies you've worked for. Don't just state what you did, but include a description of how well you completed each task and how that benefited your employer.
-
Step 4
Consider changing your resume format. Have you ever looked at a resume and been so impressed by the way it looks that you wanted to read it? This should be your goal with your resume. There are hundreds of web sites, books and software programs available that will give you great ideas on how to improve the format of your resume.
-
Step 5
Remember to do a spell check and look for grammatical errors on your revised resume. Consider having a friend or family member give you some feedback on your new and improved resume. Send your resume to a few employers and see what type of reaction you get. If you don't receive an invitation from any of them to interview for a position, you might want to take another look at your resume to see what can be changed to increase your chances of landing more job interviews.
