Love pizza, but hate all the fat and calories? Tired of spending a lot of money on frozen pies? Me too! Check out this simple recipe for a healthier pizza. I came up with this idea when I realized how much money I had been spending on frozen pizzas, not to mention the amount of fat in the regular cheese pizzas. Eat healthier and cut calories using low fat mozzarella cheese and fresh veggies.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Multi grain or wheat tortilla (wrap size)
  • 1/2 cup of pizza or spaghetti sauce
  • 1/2 cup of low fat shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1-2 teaspoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Italian seasoning
  • Fresh veggies of your choice
  1. Step 1
Use whole grain or wheat tortillas.

Use whole grain or wheat tortillas.

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place tortilla on paper. Smooth 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil over tortilla.

  2. Step 2
Don't let the sauce spill over the edge.

Don't let the sauce spill over the edge.

Spread 1/2 cup of sauce on tortilla. Leave some space from the edge so that sauce doesn't spill over.

  3. Step 3
Use low fat cheese and pepperoni.

Use low fat cheese and pepperoni.

Sprinkle 1/2 cup of shredded low-fat mozzarella cheese on top. Then add Italian seasonings. Optional: Add chopped artichoke hearts, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, or any veggie of your choice. Or if you can't stand to eat a pizza without pepperoni, use the low fat kind.

  4. Step 4

Place in oven and bake until the cheese has melted, about 8 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Remove from oven. Let pizza cool on baking sheet for about 3 minutes. Carefully remove pizza, using a large spatula, and cut with pizza cutter.

Make a whole pack of tortilla pizzas and freeze for another time. Follow the above directions except for baking. Layer pizzas with waxed or parchment paper. Place in a freezer bag and freeze for later use.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can substitute the pizza sauce with salsa and switch the mozzarella to cheddar cheese. Add a tablespoon of sour cream when done.
  • This is great for an after school snake or a lite lunch.
  • When freezing unbaked pizzas be sure to remove all the air from the bag before freezing.
  • The price of a 10-pack of tortillas, one jar of sauce, and a package of shredded mozzarella cheese is just a fraction of the price you would pay for 10 personal sized frozen pizzas.
  • Be careful removing pizza from baking sheet, it is very thin and crispy.
  • Add extra baking time to frozen pizzas.
