Most people see a large family like mine, and wonder what my husband does for a living. They are almost certain that he either has an extremely high paying job, or we are a two income family. This is not so. I will tell you, how you can be a single income, large family, and still continue to smile (well, most of the time!)

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • willingness to change lifestyle
  • patience
  • budget
  • large family
  1. Step 1

First of all, relax! It really is not as hard as you think. Don't get me wrong, it's difficult, but not completely preposterous. The first and foremost thing you need to do is sit down with your spouse and develop a plan. If the two of you have been depending on two incomes, this will be a very challenging transition. If you have credit card debt, It is imperative that you pay this off as soon as possible. This is a monthly payment you do not want to make. You will need to make a budget. Decide with your spouse what type of entertainment activities you want to cut back on during the month, (going out to eat, movie rentals, etc.) and this can go to paying off credit card or any other debt you may have.

  2. Step 2

Now that you have discussed your budget and credit debt with your spouse, lets discuss other ways you can save money. One very easy way to save money is sit down every Sunday and clip coupons. It will save you more than you can imagine. You can also save by joining a discount grocer like Sam's or Costco and buy in bulk. Store brand products are the same quality as the name brand products, only a whole lot cheaper, so it would be beneficial to purchase the store brand products and save, sometimes, up to several dollars!

  3. Step 3

This may not be the lifestyle you are accustomed to, but change is good. You need to be open to a different lifestyle. Things are going to be different, even difficult for some at first. But if staying at home with your family is what is driving you to make this decision, then it's worth it. After all, family is what it is all about. These are the days you can't get back. Just sit back, smile, and enjoy your family.
