Are you a member of the U.S. Armed Forces- active duty, reserves, retired, or a family member? Do you shop at the military commissary nearest you? Many military families do not take advantage of the savings because they do not realize just how much they can actually save. The savings are at least 30% over the costs at your local grocer!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Military ID
  1. Step 1

Compare your receipt. Take your receipt from an average trip to the commissary with you to your local grocer. Write down the price next to each item on your receipt. Compare. I did this just this past week because I wanted to see for myself if the savings were as advertised. I had saved over 34% for just one week- it came out to a $65 savings.

  2. Step 2

In addition to each item costing less at the commissary, the commissary also posts coupons on the shelf next to the item. Although they do not double coupons, you end up using so many more coupons because they are right there with the item! Some of the coupons are exclusive for use in the military commissary. Savings, savings, savings!

  3. Step 3

We have also found international items at the commissary that we can not find locally. This helps us save from having to purchase at a specialty store or online.

Tips & Warnings
  • Inactive Reservists can also use the commissary- you no longer have to be on orders to use the commissary. Show your Reserve ID anytime to shop.
