Fresh as a....well....old daisy....(yes, my senior citizen has a sense of humor!)

Senior citizens frequently have issues with their skin, due either to the side effects of medication or the fact that skin becomes thinner as we age so finding good skin care products becomes very important. This eHow will address the best skin care products that I've found for my senior citizens.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Senior Citizens tend not to shower as much as we do in our youth so make each shower count by purchasing moisturizing skin care products such as liquid bath soaps along with a mesh bath sponge. Mom and I love the skin care products from Bath and Body Works - Mom and I find that they leave the skin feeling softer and silkier than other skin care products.

  2. Step 2

One key to keeping a senior citizen's skin supple is to moisturize daily. The skin care product that Mom and I recommend is called Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion - this particular product is made with colloidal oatmeal which is very soothing. If your senior has an all over rash or itching, Aveeno also makes a Colloidal Oatmeal Bath which is quite soothing after a nice relaxing soak.

  3. Step 3

After Mom showers, I like to slather her with a nice smelling moisturizer. Our current favorite is Light Blue Body Lotion by Dolce and Gabbana. It's fairly pricey but keeps my senior citizen smelling fresh and feeling good for days.

  4. Step 4

For shampoo, choose again a moisturizing shampoo followed by a conditioner. My mom has sparkling white hair so we use haircare products specifically made for white hair. If your senior citizen has dandruff, invest in one of the higher end dandruff shampoos now on the market.

  5. Step 5

I always have quite a few of the antibacterial hand washes lying around the house for my mom to freshen her hands during the day. I also have small travel sized hand lotions that she uses to keep her hands from becoming dry. This is a great use for those hotel samples you pick up in your travels.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use oily skincare products in the shower as these items can cause the tub to become very slippery - the last thing our senior citizens need!
  • If your senior citizen has a chronic skin condition, check with their doctor about causes - it could be that the condition is curable just by switching medication.
