Both men's dress and women's dress at church have changed a lot over the years. Church used to be an extremely dressy place, but more and more churches are seeing casually dressed parishioners. Here's how to dress casual without making it too casual.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wear clothing that is in good condition. If you are allowed to dress casual in your church, make sure you aren't wearing clothes you'd wear to do yard work. Your jeans should not have holes in them and your shirt should not be stained. At no time shoudl flip flops be worn inside a church, no matter how many people dress casual there.

  2. Step 2

Wear dress clothing if your church still has a dressy tradition of church wear. Most Catholic Churches are a little dressier than others, so be prepared to wear a skirt, dress or dressy pants for women's wear if you attend one. For men's dress, you should wear a jacket and dressy pants or a suit when attending a church with stricter traditions.

  3. Step 3

Dress casual by wearing comfortable shoes while keeping a neat and clean appearance. Casual dress doesn't have to mean tennis shoes and jeans. You can wear flats or loafers which are just as comfortable as athletic shoes. A comfortable pair of neutral-colored pants and a button-up shirt is a nice, casual look for men's dress in church. Casual women's dress can be a simple dress with flats for a comfortable look that's still respectful of the congregation and the service.
