Many women will suffer the symptoms of a yeast infection in their life. A yest infection while very uncomfortable, is not life threatening. Simple home remedies can treat the signs of a yeast infection as well as the infection itself.

  1. Step 1

    A yeast infection is caused by an over growth of a fungus referred to as Candida Albicans. This fungus like many of its type thrive in a moist, warm environment. A yeast infection is characterized by itching and pain in the vaginal area with or without the presence of a discharge resembling cottage cheese. If this is the first time you have ever had a yeast infection you should contact your doctor as your symptoms can be the result of something else.

    The easiest way to treat and prevent yeast infections is by adding probiotics to your daily diet. Eating raw cultured vegetables is an excellent way to prevent many infections that are caused or complicated by the variety's of yeast. Raw cultured vegetables contain Lactobacillus Acidophilus. You can intake L. Acidophilus by consuming raw cultured vegetables or taking a vitamin supplement. Plain yogurt is a good source of Acidophilus if you are not lactose intolerant. Plain yogurt can be consumed or inserted into the vagina to relieve the symptoms of a yeast infection.

    Many natural remedies exist that can eliminate as well as prevent a yeast infection from occurring. Garlic is a very effective anti-fungal and anti-yeast remedy. Garlic will inhibit the growth of Candida. It can be eaten in whole cloves or oil filled capsules can be inserted into the vagina. Garlic is especially helpful if added to a Lactobacillus Acidophilus rich diet.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    Apple Cider Vinegar can be very helpful in the treatment and prevention of yeast infections. Apple Cider Vinegar can be used in the bath water with a ratio of 1 cup added to the bath. Organic Apple Cider Vinegar can also be used in a douche. 4 table spoons of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar can be added to warm water to produce a douche that can be used as a treatment for a yeast infection. Organic Apple Cider Vinegar can be taken in pill form but will take longer to be effective. Apple Cider Vinegar is effective because it will reduce the pH in the vagina to 0 and your body will take over producing new bacteria.

    You can use vaginal suppositories or creams that are sold in stores over the counter without a prescription. Many women report that these products can help during a yeast infection. Remember that the dryer you can make your vaginal area the better. Towel dry and use a blow dryer after baths. Consider washing your under clothing, panties, pantyhose, tights etc. in Dawn dish washing liquid. Dawn dish washing liquid has an additive that is very good at killing Candida Albicans.

    Remember that your vagina is a balanced system with a growth of both good and bad bacteria. When you take immune suppressants or antibiotics the balance within the vagina is changed. Women who have taken antibiotics or who are pregnant are at a serious risk for yeast infections. If you have taken antibiotics or suspect a yeast infection you can use an at home testing kit to check your vaginal pH.

Tips & Warnings
  • Reduce sugar in your diet during a yeast infection. Yeast thrives on sugar and cannot live without it.
  • Change under clothing often and wash with Dawn dish washing soap.
  • Use a cold pack for pain relief.
  • If you treat what you think is a yeast infection and it does not go away or have noticeable improvement within 3 days of treatment seek your physicians advice. You could have a similar infection called Bacterial Vaginosis that requires different treatment.
  • Garlic is an anti-coagulant and you should tell your doctor that you are using it.
