Stop Being a Television Addict

Are you a television addict who spends hours and hours staring at the screen? Is television controlling your life and free time? Learn how you can break the bad habit of television addiction and use the extra time to use your time more productively!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Before watching television, come up with a compromise. Tell yourself that if you're going to watch an hour of television, you need to accomplish something at the same time. For example, if you exercise and finish all of your homework or duties, you can treat yourself by watching an hour of television. You'll also be less likely to watch a lot of television as you might become tired from exercising. It's a win win situation!

  2. Step 2

Next, do not eat in front of the television! Although some people have a bad habit of eating in front of their television, resist the urge. This will help to curb your television viewing habit since you'll end up being hungry and stop watching to eat something.

  3. Step 3

Try to eliminate the television remote control! Your television viewing will most likely decrease when you are forced to change the channel everything you want to tune in to something else. This might motivate you to get up and do something productive instead of flipping the channels on your television.

  4. Step 4

You can also schedule your television time. Try to limit yourself on what you watch and schedule each viewing on a calendar.

  5. Step 5

Go out with friends! Instead of being a television potato couch, why not spend some productive time with friends, going on dates, and spending some good quality time together? Try going to the beach, bowling, fishing, racing, etc.

  6. Step 6

Lastly, try to ditch the television if you can. Give it to someone who is in need or someone who does not have one. It takes great courage to take this huge step, but it is highly effective in curing your television addiction.
