Things You'll Need:
- Money
-
Step 1
Decide why you would like to own a horse-drawn carriage. Are you wanting to use a traditional form of transportation? Or maybe you would like to open a business for profit, renting carriage rides? There are many reasons for owning a carriage.
-
Step 2
The reason you need to pinpoint your decision for buying a carriage is so that you can determine what your budget will be. If you plan to rent out use of the carriage or replace the use of a car, you may be able to incorporate savings or earnings into your budget.
-
Step 3
Locate the nearest Amish community. There are Amish communities in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kansas, Ohio and other agricultural states.
-
Step 4
Make contact with some of the local Amish community and inquire about carriage manufacturing. Most Amish communities have an active trade of carriage building.
-
Step 5
If there isn't an Amish community nearby, you can always make contact via the internet. For example, Troyer Carriage Company is a northern-Indiana Amish-owned horse-drawn carriage company. See below for the link to Troyer Carriage Company.
-
Step 6
Be sure to communicate to the Amish builders your needs and desires. Remember that often times the Amish aesthetic is "plain" and if you need something that is eye-catching they may need to build a custom carriage.

Step 7
If you live in Texas, you may not need to go through the Amish, because you can contact McInnis Industries which also manufacturers buggies. See below for the resource link.
