Things You'll Need:
- a newsletter site
- outline of key points
- email contacts
-
Step 1
Decide on how often you would like to send your business newsletter out. Most companies send them once a month. If you don't send them often enough the won't be effective, but sending them too often can be annoying to your customers and cause them to unsubscribe. Set a date in your planner to have them sent, possibly the first of the month or the last day of the month, etc.
-
Step 2
Consider using a professional business newsletter company which will give you many options of templates, will help make sure you are in accordance with the CAN SPAM ACT and offer you many features of letting you know who opened your email, what they clicked on, if they forwarded it to anyone, etc. They are usually very reasonably priced and will give you a couple months free trial period.
-
Step 3
Set time aside in your planner to write your business newsletter. Keep a file that you can put notes and information in to refer to when writing your newsletter.
-
Step 4
Include your name, company name, your tagline, services, and contact information in every newsletter. Once this is set up you should be able to use the same template over and over.
-
Step 5
Have a catchy title that entices your customers to read your business newsletter. Refer to savings, free offers, or thought provoking questions, such as "Are you avoiding these five things?". Good questions will want people to know the answer and open your mail.
-
Step 6
Don't be deceptive with your subject line, that is illegal acording to the Can-Spam Act of 2003.
-
Step 7
Have time parameters, such as "offer only good until Saturday". Give your reader a reason to read your nusiness newsletter now as opposed to later.
-
Step 8
Use small graphics and photos so your business newsletter doesn't bog down your readers computer trying to load the pages.
-
Step 9
Have live links to your website, and in multiple places. Preview, spell check, and send a preview copy to a friend to look over before sending it.
-
Step 10
Monitor what days are most successful for your readers to open your business newsletter. Business to business newsletters do best on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while business to consumer newsletters do better over the weekends.
