During the winter, a toasty warm bath towel fresh from a towel warmer is a welcome comfort. If you've ever explored the option of buying a towel warmer for your bathroom, you know that it is a luxury that comes with a price tag. Even a towel warmer from the bathroom accessories aisle at a reasonable home improvement store such as Home Depot can be costly. If you want a towel warmer but can't justify the cost, try making your own.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate the heating vent in your bathroom. In many homes, the bathroom heating vent is on the floor. This is ideal for making your own towel warmer, though a vent in the wall will also work.

  2. Step 2

Remove any dust that may have accumulated on your heating vent. This can usually be accomplished with nothing more than a damp rag. Because the heating vent will be the heat source for your towel warmer, you'll want it to be clean.

  3. Step 3

Install a hook (or several hooks, enough for each towel you'll want to warm in your homemade towel warmer) on the wall directly above the heating vent. To determine the height, just grab a bath towel and hold it against the wall. Mark the spot that keeps the towel as close to the vent as possible without touching the vent or the floor. Be sure to place the hooks in a location that will not cause the towels to block the air from the vent.

  4. Step 4

Hang your bath towel on a hook you have just installed prior to stepping in the shower. In order for your towel warmer to work, you'll need to stay in the shower long enough for the heat to kick on at least once during your shower.

  5. Step 5

Take your shower, and leave your towel hanging on your towel warmer. The warm air from your heating vent will warm your towel as you shower. Simple, affordable luxury!

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider hanging your clothing or bathrobe on your homemade towel warmer for an extra bit of comfort.
