How to Downloads Apps to Your BlackBerry Using the Desktop Manager

Did you finally get your BlackBerry and you discovered some cool tools to add to it? This tutorial will explain exactly how to add any third-party application to your device. This method will allow you to download any application your BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • BlackBerry
  • BlackBerry Desktop Manager
  • The USB that was supplied with your device
  • A website to download apps from
  1. Step 1

    Open your BlackBerry Desktop Manager. This came as a CD with your BlackBerry, if you have lost the CD you can download the BlackBerry Desktop Manager directly to your desktop from here : http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/

    Download to Desktop or Download Zip for your files

    Download the files for the application you wish to add to your BlackBerry. Make sure you download the correct files to perform a desktop installation, look for the files that say "Download to Desktop" or "Download Zip".

    Unzip the application files

    Once your download is complete, unzip the files.

    Connect your BlackBerry with the USB that was supplied with your device to your desktop.

    Within the BlackBerry Desktop Manager main menu, select Application Loader and click on “Add/Update Applications“.

    Select “Add Applications” which should be located on your left.

    You will now see a list of applications that are installed on your phone, click on the “Browse” button.

    Navigate to the directory where you unzipped the downloaded zip file.

    Select the “.alx” file.

  10. Step 10

    Press “Next“.

    Press “Finish” and your installation will now begin.

Tips & Warnings
  • This installation is one of two popular methods for installing BlackBerry applications. There is an easier method, an Over-The-Air (OTA) installation that requires fewer steps, no software, and downloads directly to your phone. This solution requires a BlackBerry data plan or access to the Internet wirelessly through your phone. Search for the How-To to install applications using this method.
