Instructions

    • 1

Place the pot on the stove. Pour two cups of water into the pot, and heat it on high.

    • 2

When the water boils, add the 1/2 cup steel-cut oats, stirring as you pour them in.

    • 3

Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-25 minutes. When the oatmeal reaches the desired consistency and chewiness, take it off the heat, pour it into bowls, and add fruit and nuts for a balanced breakfast.

    • 4

Oatmeal is pretty sticky, so you may want to fill the empty pot with hot tap water after you pour the oatmeal into bowls. The hot water will prevent the hot pan from warping, and letting the residue soak will make washing the pot much easier.

Tips & Warnings

  • This makes roughly two portions. If you're only feeding yourself, use 1/4 c. oats and one cup water. If you're feeding more people, adjust the recipe upward as needed.
