Valentine's Day can pressure you to spend money on your sweetie and save the day. But with a little creativity, you can make your loved one feel like a million bucks without breaking the bank. Here are some tried-and-true tips to spend Valentine's Day without spending a fortune.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • creativity
  • single flowers
  • tissue paper
  • romantic comedies
  • romantic recipe for 2 (see ehow)
  • votive candles
  • bottle of wine
  • chocolate chips
  • strawberries
  • heartfelt card
  • photo album
  1. Step 1

It's important to get Valentine's Day started right. Write out the lyrics of your favorite love song on blank index cards, one verse per card. Attach each lyric to a single flower wrapped in tissue paper (roses, tulips, sunflowers, or any flower you'd like).

Before she wakes up, leave the flowers and verses around the house in key places. Place the song in the order of your honey's routine (first verse on the bed, second verse in the bathroom, third verse in the kitchen, fourth verse in her car, etc).

She'll love anticipating where she's going to find the next verse, and you won't waste money on expensive flower arrangements.

  2. Step 2

Eating out on Valentine's Day can be really expensive. Instead of going to a restaurant, opt for a romantic Valentine's dinner at home. The key is to make this dinner stand out from the rest. Ehow has a ton of romantic recipes, from pastas to steak. Choose one that suits your style and surprise your honey with a romantic candlelight dinner for two.

Decorate the table with votive candles, red napkins, doilies, and heart sprinkles. Don't forget the wine!

  3. Step 3

After your romantic Valentine's dinner, choose a dessert you can feed each other with your fingers. Chocolate-covered strawberries are a great choice. Don't waste money on store-bought desserts, though. Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, and enjoy your own chocolate-strawberry fondue. Warning - can get messy!

  4. Step 4

To keep the romantic mood going, rent a romantic film that you'll both enjoy (Love Actually, Princess Bride, Sleepless in Seattle, etc). Stay away from movies about jilted lovers (Fatal Attraction), crazy stalkers (Original Sin), or divorces (First Wives Club). Be sure to get a few choices so you'll both be happy.

  5. Step 5

For an inexpensive but heartfelt gift, make a relationship photo album. Add pictures of your fun and important relationship moments. Get your digital photos printed out, and label your photos with cute relationship anecdotes.

On the last few pages, draw your own silly pictures of your future vacations, events, and milestones with your man. You'll get him excited for what's to come in your relationship.

  6. Step 6

The most important part of Valentine's Day is to let your honey know how you feel. They say actions speak louder than words, but words are important too! Write your sweetie a card to let her know how you feel about her. You can make your own card with construction paper and markers.

Timing is everything when it comes to cards. Give her the card when you finish dinner, or leave it on her pillow. You want her to be focused so she can read and absorb your words.
