Getting to checkmate in just two moves? Is it even possible? Yes, it is, but it requires a great deal of luck! Here's how to win a chess game in two moves.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A chess board, on or offline
  • Knowledge of how to play chess
  1. Step 1

In chess, White always goes first. He moves the pawn in front of his "right hand" knight up one or two spaces, or, in algebraic notation, 1.f4 or 1.f3

  2. Step 2

Black makes his first move moving the pawn in front of his Queen one or two spaces, or, in algebraic notation, 1...d6 or 1...d5.

  3. Step 3

White makes his second move moving the pawn in front of his "right hand side" Bishop up two spaces, or, in algebraic notation, 2.g4

  4. Step 4

Black moves his Queen along the diagonal so it goes right next to White's pawn, or, in algebraic notation, 2...Qh4. This puts the White King in Checkmate, as there is nowhere he can go and no piece can put itself between the White King and the Black Queen.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is often called "fool's mate."
  • You can't count winning like this, because it takes an unbelievably inept opponent to actually fall for this.
