Back up all of those old DVD's.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Windows XP or later.
  • DVD-Rom
  • Plenty of hard drive space.
  1. Step 1

Google and download DVD Shrink. I believe the latest version is 3.2. Download to your desktop and then install to the default directory or the location of your choice.

  2. Step 2

Install it and point it at the folder/directory that you want to store your DVD's in. Keep in mind you'll need to move the dvd files after you rip. So what I do is create a folder called the movie name and after the files are copied I just drag and drop. Remember that this will take up a lot of room so an external hard disk is recommended.

  3. Step 3

Insert movie and tell DVD shrink to open disk. It will scan and give you the options. You can choose to leave out subtitles and surround 5.1, 2.1 etc. Then click "Back Up". It takes a while depending on drive speed, memory and cpu but usually no longer than an hour even on my old laptop.
    Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Not all DVD's will let DVD Shrink break the copyright so don't be surprised when a few don't want to cooperate with you.
  • This is for personal back up only. If you use this to burn DVD's do so at your own risk. Especially with Nero which integrates with DVD Shrink to allow you to copy movies.
