Step 1
Choose an object, whether that be a pencil, a candle, a book, or your favorite picture. Place the object at arms length on a table in front of you. After setting a timer for ten minutes, place your undivided attention on the object for a few moments, then close your eyes and recreate that image in your mind. The goal is to be able to hold that image for the entire ten minutes. If your mind wanders, open your eyes and repeat the process until ten minutes is up.

Step 2
Again choose an object. This can be the same object used in Step 1, or it can be a different object of your choice. While placing your undivided attention on the object, formulate a story about that object in your mind. This can involve how it got there, who created it and why, how it can be useful to people, etc. Let your mind imagine the possibilities for as long as you desire. You may choose different objects with this exercise.

Step 3
This exercise can be practiced anytime you find yourself looking for a solution. Particularly in times when you feel stuck between a rock and a hard place, finding that third option always helps. Spend some time brainstorming solutions, no matter how far fetched they may seem. For every problem, think of ten solutions or more. You'll discover that in the process of imagining solutions, you have many more options than you thought you had. Additionally, some of your solutions may spark further creativity on your part, often discovering several options that work rather well.
