Make a Valentine Card Kids Craft for Teachers

Making Valentine cards is a great and fun craft for kids. They can make cards for everyone in their class and add their own special touch. But don’t forget about your teacher. They work hard all school year and Valentine ’s Day is a great chance for you to show them your thanks with a special Valentine card craft. This cute heart butterfly kids craft is not only a Valentine card but a pencil holder. You can use this as a Valentine gift for teachers, moms, dads or anyone who needs a cut pencil holder.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pink or Red Card Stock or Construction Paper
  • Pencil
  • Pipe Cleaner
  • Crayons, Markers or Stickers
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Take a piece of red or pink card stock or construction paper and fold in half from top to bottom.

  2. Step 2

Trace out a heart with the bottom of the heart along the fold and the point of the heart off the page about 1/2” - meaning don’t include the very bottom of the heart when tracing.

  3. Step 3

Cut out the heart but do not cut along the fold. This is what will hold the butterfly wings together and where you will make the slot for the pencil.

  4. Step 4

Decorate the two hearts (the wings) with stickers, markers or crayons. You can make wiggly lines, dots or even hearts for your butterfly Valentine card.

  5. Step 5

Along the fold, cut two slits about ¼” from the center.

  6. Step 6

Take a pipe cleaner and cut in half. Wrap each half of the pipe cleaner around a pencil and form into antennas.

  7. Step 7

Now simply slide the pencil through the slot and write your Valentine message on the backside of the butterfly’s wings. That’s it. You have your personalized Valentine card kids craft complete and ready to give your teacher.

Tips & Warnings
  • The younger children may need help with the cutting, but let them do all the decorating themselves.
