There are many reason why a person may need to get a DNA paternity test. There may be actual confusion about who the father. Or the father may just not beleive that he is the acual father. Whatever the reason to get a DNA paternity test, there are some things that you should know before you get one done.

1. Locate a DNA testing center in your area. Check online on the yellow pages or call your local hospital to find out if they do DNA paternity tests or know of a lab that does.

2. Save money up for the DNA paternity test. These test are not cheap. They will cost you anywhere from $400-$500 and they are not covered by inusrance. If you have a child support case going against the father, the court may provide you with a free DNA paternity test.

3. Go to the local DNA testing center with the child, the mother and the alleged father. All three of the people will need to provide their DNA for the DNA paternity test. This is the most accurate way to tell if the man is really the biological father of the child.

4. Swap the inside your cheek with a buccal swab. The DNA testing site may do this for you or they may provide you with the swap and allow you to do it. Follow all the directions that the administrator of the DNA paternity test tells you to do.

5. Wait until the results come back within the next couple of days. Depending on the DNA testing center, you may have your results within a couple of days or it may take a couple of weeks. The results of a DNA paternity test are usually 99.9% accurate.
