preserve your Barack Obama Newspaper clippings

Many people want to preserve and archive the newspapers account of our first black president Barack Obama. Most people don't realize that a newspaper clipping will not store well because it's very high acid in the print. Here is what you will need to do.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Milk of Magnesia tablet or 1 cap full of milk of magnesia liquid.
  • 1 quart of club soda
  • 1 glass casserole pan
  • paper towels
  1. Step 1

Place one tablet of milk of magnesia into a quart size bottle of club soda.

  2. Step 2

Replace the cap on the club soda, and store in the refrigerator overnight.

  3. Step 3

The next day, pour the solution into the glass casserole pan. This is a process that needs some practice, so first practice on an extra article you may have. Place the practice article into the solution for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Remove practice article from the solution, and place it between two paper towels. Gently pat it dry. Be SUPER careful not to ruin the print.

  5. Step 5

Store the clipping between two dry paper towels underneath very heavy books. Once you are comfortable with the process, repeat the process on the article that you want to save. Always practice first, or else you will ruin your clipping.

Tips & Warnings
  • Store the paper clippings in a dry, dark, place.
  • If you store them in a box, make sure it's acid-free.
  • Never store with paperclips, rubberbands, or staples
  • Avoid excessive patting as you can remove the print, or ruin the clipping.
