Make Sweet and Sour Meatballs (Microwave)

Create Sweet and Sour Meatballs made ground beef (chicken or turkey), in your microwave. There is also a recipe variation listed below to create Glazed Meatballs too. This is a delicious appetizer any time when you need to entertain guests.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Pound Ground Beef ( Turkey or Chicken)
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Butter or Margarine
  • 1/4 Cup Chopped Onion
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons Water
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Egg, Beaten
  • SAUCE:
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Packed Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter or Margarine
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce
  • 1 Small Onion, Chopped
  • 1 Cup Catsup
  • 9 Inch Round Glass Baking Dish
  • 1 Quart Glass Casserole
  • Medium Mixing Bowl
  • Wax Paper
  1. Step 1

Combine all the meatball ingredients in a medium mixing bowl, mixing well.

  2. Step 2

Shape the meatballs into twenty (20) 1-inch meatballs, placing them into a 9-inch round glass baking dish. Cover with wax paper.

  3. Step 3

Microwave for 8 minutes on ROAST then drain.

  4. Step 4

    SAUCE:
Place the onion and butter in a 1-inch glass casserole. Microwave for approximately 2 minutes on HIGH.

TIP: Wait until the onion is partly cooked.

  5. Step 5

    Stir in remaining ingredients.

  6. Step 6

Pour Sauce mixture over meatballs. Continue cooking for an additional 3 to 4 minutes again on ROAST (or until hot).

    Makes 20 Meatballs

  7. Step 7

    Variation: GLAZED MEATBALLS
Substitute 1 package (3/4 ounces) Brown Gravy Mix, 1/2 Cup Water, 1/2 Cup Apple Jelly and 2 Tablespoons Catsup for all SAUCE ingredients. Final cooking time will need to be increased by 3 to 4 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Covering with wax paper holds in the steam which helps speed cooking.
  • Meatballs will cook evenly if the temperature setting is placed on ROAST.
  • This time to cook in the microwave will need to be adjusted depending on the watts of your microwave and the elevation you are located. This recipe was made using a 1000 watt microwave.
