Resumes are an essential tool in finding a job. Your resume is the only thing a potential employer sees of you, so they must be impressed. Here are some tips to help you improve your resume so that you'll get called for an interview.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first rule when writing a resume is not to lie or exaggerate. You will be in trouble if you are hired and your employer finds out that the long list of skills and abilities you had listed on your resume are a far fetch from your actual abilities. Always be truthful.

  2. Step 2

When applying for individual jobs, make sure that your resume clearly portrays your ability to perform the job you are applying for. Carefully read the job posting and directly respond to it's void using your abilities. Let employers know very clearly that you are qualified for the job.

  3. Step 3

Make sure you explain your past successes and contributions to your previous companies on your resume. Put yourself in an employer's shoes. They want to hire someone who has contributed to a company by making them money, saving them money, or improving their product. Once again, sell yourself.

  4. Step 4

Make sure to list dates of employment when listing employment history. Without dates, the company doesn't know if you are up to date in the field or if your last related job was 10 years ago. Always include dates.

  5. Step 5

If you are having trouble getting an interview, consider a resume writing service. This is a small investment considering the job and salary that might follow.
