I love to make soup in the winter and this one is simple, requires few ingredients and warms body and soul.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • crock pot (or big pot)
  • ham hock (or leftover ham from a ham dinner)
  • a bag of split peas; green or yellow
  • a little pepper
  • a med onion
  1. Step 1

    Gather ingredients.

  2. Step 2

For a medium sized crock pot, put one ham hock and one package of split peas into the pot.

  3. Step 3

Fill to about one inch below the top of the crock pot with water.

  4. Step 4

Add a couple teaspoons of pepper and a chopped medium onion.

  5. Step 5

Set crock pot to low and leave covered overnight. If you make your soup in the morning, you can cook it all day on low and serve for dinner. If you cook it overnight so that it is done for dinner after work the next day, check it in the a.m. to be sure it hasn't absorbed all the water. If it is very thick, add water to near the top again and stir.

  6. Step 6

You can make your soup any consistency you prefer but it shouldn't be too watery.
