Having a baby with colic can be quite frustrating for new parents. Seeing your baby just continue to cry and it seems like nothing is working to calm the baby. There has been proven research that soothing sounds that mimic the sounds the baby heard in the womb, can have a calming affect on a colicky baby. Here are some soothing sounds that will help calm a baby with colic.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soothing sounds
  1. Step 1

Run water from a faucet or a shower. The sound of running water is soothing to babies with colic. It may be that it reminds them of the sound of the fluid from the womb. If your colicky baby responds well to this, you may want to record running water or look for free downloads of running water online so your water bill is not outrageous.

  2. Step 2

Place your baby right next to your chest so they can hear your heartbeat. Hearing the soothing sound of your heartbeat reminds a colicky baby of being secure in the womb.

  3. Step 3

Play nature sounds like the rainforest or ocean waves for your baby. You can find CD's of these sounds at most stores or you can look online for free downloads for these sounds. These soothing sounds help to calm your baby and helps them to de-stress.

  4. Step 4

Run the vacuum, hair dryer, or clothes dryer for your baby. These soothing sounds seem to help calm baby and put them at ease. Just make sure that the sounds are not to loud for the baby.

  5. Step 5

Purchase a CD that has womb sounds on it. You can find these online or at stores that sell baby supplies. The womb sounds help recreate the security that the baby had in the womb and will calm them so they fall asleep.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may have to try a couple of these soothing sounds before you find something that works for your baby. Every baby is different and will respond differently to the sounds. Also, remember that colic will go away after a couple of weeks, but these sounds can also help with an older baby putting them to sleep.
