This is a free step by step guide on how to start a handyman service - promoting

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

OK so you've placed your classified ads, you've got signs everywhere, and you're waiting for those calls to come in. No, don't just wait around.

  2. Step 2

Research online and find out where you can register your business. Get added to as many lists as possible. Look into becoming a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Check into Apartment Associations. Check into being listed on your State Official Website.

  3. Step 3

Sign up with the Better Business Bureau. Go to home improvement stores and get your business on the contractor list. Place your business cards on bulletin boards every time you get a chance.

  4. Step 4

Up to this point you have spent very little money on advertising. The traditional method is to call the yellow pages, place an ad, and wait until the new phone book comes out. I just hope it will bring you enough business to pay for the ad. In this day and age having your business listed online at yellowbook and yellowpages.com and listed with directory assistance will probably bring you revenue, but I can't say for certain since I've has some traditional phone book ads flop miserably.

  5. Step 5

Check into the price of radio advertising. Don't bother checking into TV it's way too expensive.

  6. Step 6

on 3/22/2009 Good tips. A local board of realtors is a good place to get known as well.
