Sometimes there's nothing you can do except wait for an idea to pop into your head. What helps me the most is seeing other artists work, going to museums, taking a walk, listening to music, sketching even doodle-ing. Experimenting with different mediums can also be of great help.Having a gluebook is of help too(see my article on how to make one: http://www.ehow.com/how_4692038_make-a-gluebook.html)

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look at other artist's work. Artists portfolios can help you to create art to inspire you. You can take one technique of theirs and implement it by including it in your art in a different way.

  2. Step 2

Go to museums. Going to museums can help you get exposed to art history. It can help you see different forms of art. It can give you ideas of what you can do with art.

  3. Step 3

Experiment. Experimenting with different mediums is fun. It is a good way to try different techniques. You can also try to use different mediums at the same time to get different results. You may try acrylic paint with water, acrylic paint and water colors, ink and water colors ect.

  4. Step 4

Get a gluebook. Having a gluebook or a sketchbook can help you plan out your future works. It can give you a start with your next project.
