Aim for the Target
Aim for the Target

A goal without a plan to reach it, is just a dream. New Year resolutions are often like that. So how can you be better at reaching the goals you set? Everyone needs to have long and short term goals. It is important to have business goals and personal goals. Unless those goals are combined with daily, weekly and monthly activities to gauge success, you won’t be able to achieve your goal.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ambition
  • Need to Succeed
  1. Step 1
    List your Goals
    List your Goals

Decide on a long range goal, and write it down, and tell others what your goal is. Understand how much better your life will be if you achieve your goal. Written goals are more likely to be achieved than if they are not. Ask yourself who do you know who could help you achieve your goal. Enlist their help. Find pictures of what you are trying to achieve and look at them everyday.

  2. Step 2

Find pictures of what your goal is and put them in places where you will see them. Take a look at them to inspire you to tackle the activities you have to do, so you can reach your goal. It is important to ‘visualize’ both the end result and how we will achieve it.

  3. Step 3

Look for intermediate steps that you can achieve between today and the date you want your goal completed. If the long range goal is to be accomplished in a year, break it down into 12 monthly smaller goals, then weekly goals, then daily goals.

  4. Step 4
    Keep your Behavior Journal
    Keep your Behavior Journal

Create a behavior journal. List the activities you need to do everyday to achieve your daily goal. Use your behavior journal in conjunction with your calendar to block out the time needed to accomplish your tasks. If you achieve your daily goal each day, your weekly goal will be met as well. Make sure your list of activities are things you have control over.

  5. Step 5

Be specific when you list the activities you need to do everyday. Write your activities down in a positive and affirmative way. If you are in sales for example “I will call on 25 new people and introduce our company to them” or “I will call 5 existing customers and ask for referrals”. Don’t make the task MORE than you can do. Avoid the words “try” and “maybe”. It is important to schedule the time to do the activities that need to be done to reach your daily goal.

  6. Step 6

Track your progress. Don’t leave it to your memory to be sure you did what you said you would do. Use your behavior journal to mark off your completed activities.

  7. Step 7
    Reward Yourself
    Reward Yourself

It is easier to fail than succeed. So when you succeed, reward yourself. Set high, but reasonable goals to accomplish. Be prepared for things to occur that will take you off of your daily path. Don’t worry if that happens. Tomorrow get right back on track

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have no goals set, then you are sure to accomplish them. If you have goals set, you are sure to achieve a lot more and improve your life along the way.
