Step 1
Start out by setting your rates higher then where they are now. To be able to find and get the higher paying freelance writing jobs, you need to have the mindset that you are worth the money. What you do for a writing client is important and deserves to be paid what you are worth. No, you are not going to be able to go from making $5 for a 500 word article to making $100. Make small but significant jump in what you charge for your freelance writing services. In the example above, you could raise your rates to $15 for a 500 word article. After 3 to 6 months of getting this rate, you can reevaluate to ask for higher rates.

Step 2
Go to freelance writing job sites that have a minimum on what type of writing jobs that they will post. There is one site Freelance writing gigs.com that will not post any freelance writing job that does not pay at least $10 for an article. Once you have found these sites, you will want to check back often to see what freelance writing openings that are available and interest you.

Step 3
Submit queries to private businesses to offer your freelance writing services to them. You will not make a lot of money per article when you only write for content sites. You need to cut out the middlemen to find higher paying freelance writing jobs. Draft a left outlining why this company will need your freelance writing services and how it can benefit their business. Always address how what you do will help to bring the company more money in. This will make the business stand up and take notice to the fact that they need a freelance writer.
