You have decided to breastfeed your baby, but the night feedings are taking a toll on you. Best tip: feed your baby in bed, here is how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comfortable bed
  1. Step 1

I strongly recommend a co-sleeper when nursing your baby. The bed can be bought used for about $75 or new for $150-ish. I wish I had bought one for our first baby, and I am SO pleased with it for my 2nd and 3rd. A GREAT shower gift!!

  2. Step 2

For the first 6-10 months you will often end up having to feed your baby one to two times per night. This is hard on mom. I recommend taking the baby in bed with you and nurse while you both are laying down and soon drifting off to sleep.

  3. Step 3

Start with positioning yourself facing your partner. Put the baby between you and your partner. While the baby is under 3 months of age you may roll a towel and put behind him or her to keep steady on the side. (make this the opposite if you do not have a co-sleeper)

  4. Step 4

Pull up your knees and put your bottom arm up and under the pillow. Pull the baby close to you, you should be stomach to stomach and start feeding. The baby will often fall asleep while doing this, and in many cases so will mom. When done on the 1st side, turn to the other side.

  5. Step 5

Either you put your baby back in bed, again, if you have a co-sleeper this is easy, and you will not wake up the baby, and just barely you will wake up yourself.

Tips & Warnings
  • There is always the discussion about how safe it is to have the baby in bed with you. Please use your own judgement if this is something for you and your family.
