There are tons of ways to save money but saving on the electric bill can seem difficult. I mean, we all need electricity right? Yeah we all do but we could all go with a little less electricity and a little more in our wallets.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • The will to save money.
  1. Step 1

Replace your old light bulbs with fluorescent bulbs. They use about 10% the energy and last much longer.

  2. Step 2

Always turn out the lights when you're not using them. Even if it's just for a couple seconds. You'll be surprised at how much you can save by turning out the lights.

  3. Step 3

Unplug anything and everything that's not being used. And I mean EVERYTHING: TVs, microwaves, computers, game systems, lamps, VCRs, DVD players, and especially phone chargers. These things use what's known as "vampire" energy. They suck energy from the outlet when they're not in use or even when they're off. You know that little light that stays on on your TV when you shut it off? That's vampire energy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't replace your old bulbs until they burn out; otherwise, you're just wasting a perfectly good light bulb.
  • Leave little notes by the doors or switches to remind yourself to turn off the lights or unplug appliances.
