Things You'll Need:
- a drain pan or bucket to collect the coolant, approximately 5 gallons.
- a small wrench or pliers to loosen drain plug.
- enough new coolant to refill the radiator.
-
Step 1
Loosen the fill cap, located on the coolant fluid tank.
-
Step 2
Place a drain pan or bucket under the radiator drain valve located on the bottom of the radiator. (My 7.3 liter Powerstroke diesel holds 5 gallons)
-
Step 3
Loosen the drain valve. Turn it counter-clockwise with the wrench or pliers to loosen it. This will allow the coolant to run out of the spout or hole.
-
Step 4
Make sure the drain pan is under the valve and drain all of the coolant out.
-
Step 5
Once the radiator is empty, tighten the valve and refill the radiator.
