If you've had a single yeast infection, or if your yeast infections are recurrent, there are ways to prevent them from returning.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Don't wear tight pants or underwear. Pants and underwear that are too tight will cause moisture. Moisture allows yeast to breed. Wearing comfortably relaxed-fitting underwear and pants will allow air in the area to circulate, preventing potential yeast infections.

  2. Step 2

Avoid too much sugar and alcohol. Indulging in too much alcohol and sweets can upset the balance of your body. The sweets can cause a build up of yeast in your body. Maintaining a healthy diet with little sugar and plenty of protein will help prevent yeast infections.

  3. Step 3

Change out of wet swimsuits or wet clothing as soon as possible. Having moisture trapped against your body for long periods will encourage the growth of yeast. Changing into dry clothing will help prevent yeast infections.

  4. Step 4

Avoid "fad" acts of intimacy, such as using Altoids or Pop Rocks on your partner when you're orally intimate. Unless he washes before intercourse, this will present sugar directly into your vaginal area, which is inviting yeast to multiply. Also, never allow anything sugary to be used directly on your intimate areas, for the same reason.
