Bathrooms are like kitchens in that they're both busy workspaces that are filled with an assortment of tools and products. But while kitchens have an array of cabinets laid out for specific storage needs, bathroom storage tends to be simplistic and catch-all, leading to clutter and disorganization. Once you declutter a messy bathroom, you can maintain order by arranging stored items by type and using drawer dividers, totes, and bins to keep like items together. Does this Spark an idea?

      Empty and clean every storage area and surface of the bathroom to take stock of all of the items you have and what you really need to keep. Dispose of everyday hygiene items you haven't used in a while, as well as expired medications. Consolidate containers as much as possible.

      Organize all items by catergory, such as "hair products," "cold medications," etc. and/or by frequency of use.

      Purchase drawer dividers, clear plastic bins, shelf organizers, portable totes, and other storage devices to accommodate each category of stored items. Things that you use more often should be the most readily accessible, while less frequently needed items can be stacked in covered bins.

      Use washable plastic totes or caddies to contain cleaning products, and keep them under the sink (unless there are young children in the house). If you'd like to keep everyday items, like cotton swabs and hair ties, on a shelf or on the vanity top, store them in decorative glass containers.

      Considering storing occasional items in enclosed bins in a hallway or bedroom closet near the bathroom, if necessary. Another option is to find the right piece of furniture for adding storage space in the bathroom.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add a unit to your shower area to dispense soap, shampoo, etc instead of having bottles laying around.

  • Remeber when in doubt be sure to throw it all out.

    I once read a book that said to keep their bathroom organized, the author cleaned it twice per day. Who has that much time??? This is much more manageable.
